After two weeks away in Alabama, we finally made it back home last night. The car ride was a bit rough at times (Frank only slept about 1 hour and 15 minutes out of the 12-hour drive. Seriously.), but we made it in one piece. Frank was super happy to be home. I think he remembered the house and his room, because he was very glad to play in the playroom, take his bath, and go to bed when we arrived. I must admit, I thought I was going to have to re-train him to sleep in his crib after two weeks in the pack ‘n play. We picked Emmitt up from Dog Camp this afternoon, and now the whole family is together again.
It is really amazing how much Frank has “grown up” in the two weeks we were gone. He is now crawling so fast that I can hardly keep up with him. He’s also standing up all the time, so I REALLY need to remove a bunch of candles and picture frames from low-lying shelves. Like now. Plus, yesterday in the car, he started clapping for the first time. Now he claps all the dang time. It’s too cute! And he says “Yay!” with each clap. Or more like “Aaaaay!”
I haven’t taken any pictures since we returned, though I wanted to today when we ran into Melissa Rycroft, star of “The Bachelor” and “Dancing with the Stars” at Mr. Goodcents sub shop. How cool is that?! I’ll leave you with a couple of pictures from our final days at the beach.

Demanding his next meal, as per usual
Oh yeah, I also need to give a shout-out to my beautiful, fantastic Aunt Sissy, whose birthday was on the 27th. Happy Belated Birthday! I think you read this blog…
Greetings from Gulf Shores!! We have been here almost a week now and are loving it! Frank and I took a three-day detour through Montgomery, AL to visit our BFFs, the Bleils, on the way. The 12-hour drive was pretty painful, but we had Gammie with us to entertain Frank when he was restless. Anyway, we celebrated Anna B’s first birthday, went to the Montgomery Zoo, played with big sister Sarah, made one trip to the acute care doctor’s office (Frank had a little fever and cough), and most importantly, hung out with old friends while in Montgomery. It was great! Thanks Kerry and JB for hosting us!!
On Tuesday, we packed back into the car (this time, only Frank and me) and drove to Gulf Shores to meet up with Mimi, Aunt Stacy, and cousins Audrey and Tanner. We’ve had a couple of great beach days and a few rather stormy days…
This is a picture of a windsurfer taking advantage of the huge waves right before the storm hit. He was doing all kinds of flips and stuff. Very cool.
Unfortunately, because we are relative novices at this Tropical Depression stuff, we didn’t know the huge waves were leading to a complete devastation of our tent…Yikes…
The excellent news is that Frank’s $10 Target (WalMart?) turtle baby pool was relatively unscathed. I dumped the sand out of it, gave it a good spray with the hose, and it was back in business. I didn’t even need to re-inflate it.
Anyhoo, yesterday was a most perfect day! Heath arrived at 10:00 am, and brought with him the sunshine!! We were able to be on the beach all together after naptime. Heath and Stacy taught Audrey and Tanner how to body surf, which was pretty hilarious. They all had a great time. And Frank is getting re-accustomed to the sand after a couple of days away from it. The beach is pretty crowded right now for Memorial Day weekend, but we expect it will be cleared out by Tuesday. I’ll leave you with a few pics from yesterday afternoon’s surfing session. Hopefully I’ll be able to post once more before we head back to Dallas on Saturday!
Today was kind of emotional for Frank. Well, really for me, because he doesn’t have any idea of what’s going on. Two of our favorite things ended today. First, Miss Jessica is graduating from SMU on Saturday, so today was our last day with her. It was also our last Little Gym class until August. How sad! I forgot to take the camera to Little Gym, but he had a big day. I know he will miss Mr. Nick and all of his friends. He will probably not miss the parachute, however.
I DID snap a picture of Frank saying “bye bye” to Jessica.
We are really going to miss her! We’re excited about Miss Erin, though, who will take over in August.
In other news, we have been celebrating my birthday all week, which is fun! I’ve had two yummy dinners out, and yesterday I received a case of wine in the UPS! Can’t complain about that!!
I am trying to get all packed for vacation. It has been a very long time since I went anywhere for two whole weeks! And, I’ve never done it with an infant, so I’m sure I’ll overpack and still manage to forget something major.
Finally, I want to ask for all of your prayers for my good friend, Thomas, who was in a terrible car accident last night. He’s going to be all right, but as I type, he’s still unconscious and has a lot of broken bones. He will need a lot of support for the next few weeks, so I appreciate any positive vibes. Thanks!!
Next update from the beach!
Today is Mother’s Day! It is my first one. Well, technically, it is my second, as I was quite pregnant at this time last year. And, actually, Heath bought me a book of baby names for Mother’s Day TWO years ago, because we had just decided to start trying to get pregnant. But I digress. This is the first Mother’s Day with FRANK!
Frank and Mama on First Mother's Day
We had a great day! Heath went out for donuts (always a crowd pleaser) before Frank and I even woke up. He got an assortment, which is really problematic for me. I had to have a bite of each kind, so I’m pretty sure I ate about 4 complete donuts when you add them all together. Ick! Anyhoo, I was then allowed to go back to bed when Frank took his morning nap, where I watched SNL from last night (love that Justin Timberlake) and, of course, some vintage 90210. Meanwhile, Heath was weeding the flower beds and picking up the house for company! We hosted the Dixons and Furreys for lunch (family-style fajitas from Mi Cocina — no cooking and no clean-up!). Frank gave me some lovely earrings, which I am sporting in the photo above. It was a pretty great day! And, because my birthday is Friday, Momfest continues for another week!!! Yay!
Here are some more photos from the past few days. As you can see, Frank is now pulling up on everything! I haven’t really baby-proofed anything yet; I guess I’m waiting until it’s absolutely necessary. Or after vacation.
And, finally, here is what I was up to last weekend…VEGAS with my sorority sisters! Celebrating TEN years since college graduation (WOW).
